The u14 John West Féile na nGael Festival of Hurling, Camogie & Handball was held in Wexford, Carlow and Kilkenny on the weekend of the 16th – 18th of June. Clonard have a proud history in this competition as we were the first Wexford team to win a Hurling Féile All Ireland in 1985.

On the Friday (16th) we had matches against a team from Louth and a team from Glynn/Barntown in Killurin. On Saturday we played Portlaoise, who we hosted for the weekend, at 11am in Coolcotts. We then travelled to Tinryland, Co. Carlow to play our final match against Slieverue.

All the boys enjoyed the ‘weekend festival’ of hurling. The players’ commitment over the weekend was really a credit to them. The club is very proud of them and the effort they put into it. A big shout out to the  mentors also, Barry Curran, Paul Kavanagh and Mick Lyng. Fair play lads.

Clonard would like to acknowledge and say a sincere thank you to all our host families who looked after our guests Portlaoise GAA last Friday and Saturday night. They all had a fantastic time. Without your help these events could not take place. Thank you.

A big mention for Portlaoise GAA for being such sporting guests. It really makes Féile so special when players, coaches, families and communities from anywhere in the country can come together through the GAA and hurling and thoroughly enjoy a unique sporting event. You never know, we might meet again in the future on the hurling ‘battlefields’! Thank you again the Portlaoise lads.

We would like to thank all those who made/brought  sandwiches, cakes and drinks which helped us cater for the 2 Féile teams in our pitch last Saturday morning before they both headed off to Carlow to play again in the afternoon. Thank you.

Thanks to all for the help in preparing Clonard Community Centre for the BBQ for the 2 teams arrival home from Carlow on the Saturday night. DJ Mick Kelly was on hand to belt out the ‘tunes’ for the dodgy dance moves also! Thank you.

Finally, to all who helped in any way it was all very much appreciated and it is your continued drive and commitment to the club that lets us take part in such sporting events like Féile 2017.

We hope that everyone enjoyed and celebrated the beautiful game of hurling and all that it brings with it.
