I have been a member of Clonard GAA Club since 1987. Although I did not play for the club, I have been involved with teams and on the committee since this time. I was elected Chairperson of the club in 1999 for a three year term. During this time, I was mentored by the late Chrissy Cleary, a stalwart in the club and local community alike. We travelled to matches together to compare notes and put in place plans for school coaching and a ladies football club for Clonard. The ladies club went on to win two adult county championships and numerous underage titles.
My vision for the club at that time was to broaden the club membership to encompass all age ranges in both hurling and football for men, women, boys and girls. This continues to be my vision for Clonard.
As the newly elected Chairperson, I hope to work with the Committee to further integrate the club into the local community and schools. I look forward to the challenges, and hope for success in the year ahead.
