Our U12 Footballers played Ballyhogue last Tuesday 12 July and they came home without the points. The Ballyhogue boys were out of the blocks that Clonard boys conceded with 2 quick goals, our boys were shell shocked. Maybe it was the drive, our guys were flat on their feet or it was like Nicky asked if what county we were in. Anyway the boys got it together and they played brilliant football, Nicky the geography student, stopped bullets in the goal, in front of him was, Cian, Leon, Daragh, Clinton and the surprise package of, Adam who played out of his skin. Our fear of the cluiche is Ryan who contributed 3g 6p from midfield, he was sensational. Rory, Barry, another Daragh, Taofik, who was captain, Cillian and James who gave of their best.
Our thanks to the parents and grandparents, who drove to Bree. I think it is like a social club, people drinking tea and coffee on the sideline. Next time they will probably bring sandwiches and/or cake. Our next match 19 July is against Taghon/Camross and it is in Coolcotts.
Our get well soon to one of the stars, Barry who broke 2 fingers, in the match, so he will be out for the next 3 – 4 weeks. Our young men enjoyed themselves, to show off their skill and hopefully learn more skills, from their opponents. One event that in one of the matches that Killian played a ball over his head and as it fell he took and unstoppable shot at goal, like Rory O’Connor the County minor. The best of our boys were, Darragh, Rory, Killian, Little Flash, Leon, Nicky, James, Luke. We were missing Adam, who is in Austria. We sent a team of hurlers to the Halo Tiles Wexford GAA Centre of Excellence for the Halo Tiles U11 Blitz. This was brilliantly organized, the set up was magnificent. Clonard could like to express their gratitude to the co-ordinators Marion, Emma and Amanda, and Coiste na nOg. Could we suggest that this event should be a monthly occasion of this initiative. Our first match was against the bearers of the purple and gold, St. Patricks, then we had the stripeymen from the ‘bould’ Shelmaliers and in conclusion Clongeen. Our gang of drivers were reeking of coffee, again, we would like to publically to say thanks to those who drove to Ferns.
Clonard u10s played away to St Mary’s of Rosslare in Tagoat on Friday night. A sincere well done is due to all players on their performances. With seventeen players available on the night Clonard fielded two teams – a nine a-side and an eight a-side team. In the nine a-side game there were some good goalkeeping (and outfield) performances from Luke, Josh and Cormac. While players rotated positions out the field the effort from all was exemplary – Darragh, Cillian, Rory, Daniel, Troy, Eoin. The nine a-side game was a good competitive work out for the blues which finished even. The eight a-side game was also a good competitive game for the blues with Orlaith, Jenna, Charlotte, Fionn, Cormac, Shannon, James and Ella giving 100%. A few examples of the effort from Cluain Ard included Shannon driving out with the ball, Cormac Gallagher’s score, Rory banging in the goals and Luke and Daniel working together in a great piece of defensive work. Training again on Tuesday to keep progressing.
Clonard 8s played Kilmore in Kilmore on Saturday. Both clubs played two teams against each other in good spirited football contests. It was great to see the honest efforts of the Clonard blues in keenly contested matches. In one of the games Jack Gregg carrying an injury into the game displayed kicking accuracy in his role as keeper on the day. Tyler and Finn in the same game worked together in defence with Sam, Borna and Joe working hard out the field. In the other game Aine and Eamonn Ryan were aided by Doireann and William. Overall it was a good work out for the Cluain Ard 8s. A sincere thanks to the parents who were able to travel on the day and our host in Kilmore. Congratulations to Mags Carty on winning €285 in this week’s Split the Pot.
